Full Guide

Most people know their age in years, but there's a whole world of interesting age metrics: total days alive, days until the next birthday, day of the week you were born, and milestone markers like 10,000 days.

Total Days Lived & Leap Year Handling

The formula accounts for leap years. Every 4 years adds an extra day, but century years (1700, 1800, 1900) skip leap day unless divisible by 400 (2000 was a leap year). A person born January 1, 2000 has lived through one leap day by January 1, 2024—adding 1 extra day beyond simple subtraction.

February 29 Birthdays (Leap Day Babies)

About 4 million people worldwide were born on Feb 29. They legally celebrate on Feb 28 or Mar 1 in non-leap years. For age calculation purposes, most systems assign them March 1 as their "legal birthday" when calculating age.

Half-Birthdays

A half-birthday is exactly 6 months after your actual birthday. A person born March 15 has a half-birthday on September 15. Some cultures give gifts on half-birthdays, and some insurance policies use them for premium calculations.

The 10,000-Day Milestone

10,000 days = 27 years + 138 days (approximately). People often celebrate "10,000 days old" parties. You can use our age calculator to find your exact 10,000-day date.

Zodiac Signs

Zodiac signs are determined by the sun's position against the ecliptic. Knowing your birth date gives your zodiac sign, but note: cusp dates vary slightly year to year.
